Drum closure

ITS BEGINNINGS

Traditionally, the end of drumming in Tobarra was something unorganised and without common criteria, although there was an iconic place that brought together the majority of drummers and drummers (the mythical Bar El Paso, for example). After the irruption of the Monumento al Tambor (Monument to the Drum) in the landscape of Tobarreño, in many minds there was the idea that this was the ideal place to drown the drumming until the following year, in fact some groups began to go there. They were the pioneers (we do not mention anyone to avoid unintentional omissions, but we convey sincere thanks to all those involved).

CURRENT DRUM CLOSURE

With this precedent, the AAT decided to turn the Closing of the Drum into an event with capital letters, the climax that every Holy Week deserves. From 2012 we took the reins for good (although it was already the norm informally for those dates), incorporating a multitude of elements to improve the experience, such as the clocks that mark the countdown (and whose work begins on Holy Wednesday with 104 hours ahead, although they are functional all year round) or speakers so that after the silence the local anthem can be heard, which is mixed with the clash of the sticks to form a sound passage that is already part of the history of Tobarre, and an Asset of Cultural Interest.

And that's without forgetting the most important element: thousands of drums beating and beating off together in a thrilling symphony.
