About Us
Our history
The Asociacion "Amigos del Tambor" of Tobarra was founded in 2008 with the aim of promoting and fostering the tradition and craft of drumming in our town.
The drum is the historical hallmark of our town, which has its maximum expression during the days of Holy Week. From this association we work to value its specific weight, knowing that this is our differential fact with respect to the vast majority of the Holy Weeks in Spain. We work to improve every year the greatness of a festival in which thousands of drummers, like a sonorous and colourful mantle, fill our streets with the light and brightness of the jewels that are our drums.
We hope that all the drummers of Tobarra feel identified with this association, and that with their “Amigo del Tambor” card, they can proudly accredit their status as drummers of our town.
In our young career we have launched several initiatives with great enthusiasm and interest, not only at Easter, but throughout the year, with the drum being the protagonist. And we will continue to do so, because what drives us is the incessant beat of its beat.
All this work would be meaningless if we were not able to sum it up in a single wish, “let's enjoy our drum”, because....
THERE IS NOTHING BETTER IN THE WHOLE WORLD THAN, IN TOBARRA, BEING A DRUMMER!
Tamborada, an Asset of Cultural Interest
In 2016 a fundamental milestone was reached, and that is that we managed to have the Tamborada de Tobarra and the Cierre del Tambor declared an Asset of Cultural Interest by the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports. It is a well-deserved award for one of the most relevant and deeply rooted traditions of the municipality of Tobarra, and is a preamble to what would happen a couple of years later.
Tamborada, Intangible Cultural Heritage by Unesco
After years of chasing it, finally in 2018 the Tamborada de Tobarra, along with the rest of the tamboradas of the various towns in Spain that share tradition, became Intangible Heritage of Humanity, with the title of "Las Tamboradas, repiques rituales de tambores" (drumming rituals). It is the most prestigious award for which traditions or any cultural practice can be eligible. This speaks clearly of how important the drum has been in the history and society of Tobarreña in particular, and of the rest of the drumming towns in general.
